Do Glutathione-boosting foods have similar effect on every age group?
Glutathione is anelementpresent in each and every cell of a human body. It acts as an antioxidant which neutralizes free radicals and prevents damage of cells.Glutathione is nothing but a simple fragmentmade up of 3 protein building blocks or amino acids- cysteine, glutamine and glycine. Although many phytochemicals, minerals and vitamins also do the same, glutathione is a little different as it is intracellular and fabricatednaturallyin a healthy and well-nourished body.
Our body needs appropriate levels of Glutathione so that other antioxidants can be utilized well within the body. Other antioxidants include Vitamin C, E, carotenoids, selenium etc. Therefore,it is not just an antioxidant but glutathione is also important in other biochemical functions like, detoxification, better immune system and utilization of energy.
Having said that, poor diet, unhealthy lifestyle, stress, other medication, any kind of infection and other toxins can easily disrupt the natural production of glutathione. Therefore, in today’s era and the kind of lifestyle we all are living, it becomes all the more important to maintain appropriate levels of glutathione. Moreover, glutathione boosting foods have different effect on every age group, gender and every individual based on different factors such as lifestyle, stress levels, daily diet etc. Since high glutathione is an essential factor in the detoxification of many compounds it is found that detoxification potential decreases with the age thereby decline in our health and longevity.
